In this issue...

Three students from the Casa de Sara Escuelita thank you for putting smiles on their faces.

n April 24, 2004, Casa de Sara turned 3 years old! We have accomplished a great deal in those three years. We have conducted numerous pediatric and vision clinics, provided humanitarian aid to orphanages in both Santa Cruz and La Paz, Bolivia, and most importantly, we established our first Escuelita (Little School) in 2003. In addition, we have also donated supplies to other organizations working in Guatemala, Haiti, and right here in the Appalachian Mountains.

It has been a long road the past three years. We have faced many challenges, but because of you (our donors) it has been possible to help those in need, put smiles on many faces and serve those who have no other source of help. Thank you all for everything you have done to help this organization and the children we serve. You are needed and appreciated more than you will ever know. You have changed lives.

2004 kicked off with the beginning of our 2nd year of school. (The school year in Bolivia begins in February.) We now have more programs and more opportunities for our children to learn and grow: Medical seminars for the kids and their parents, regular medical exams and daily vitamins, more field trips, international pen pal exchanges with a local Knoxville school, DVD and video learning tools, and more.

The road to growth will continue to be a long one in Bolivia. As always we will move slowly and cautiously. We receive regular requests to increase our grade levels and establish new schools, but we can only grow with your help. We ask for your continued support as we plan for the future. Even though we still remain an all-volunteer organization here in the USA, the costs in Bolivia and the USA are rising. There is a never-ending sea of paperwork that goes on in Bolivia in order to conduct business there. Almost three years of regulatory paperwork and the end is nowhere in sight. To grow means more students, more teachers, and more space. Ultimately, we will need to build another building or add to the donated space we already have. We are planning and moving toward that goal.

This year Casa de Sara will also launch some small, educationally based projects in Ecuador. We look forward to being able to help a new country and learn about new possibilities for future schools. We will update you on the progress of this project in the next newsletter.

What once was a dream is now a solid reality. I want to personally thank everyone who has been a part of Casa de Sara. And to those who have been touched by Casa de Sara, it has been an honor to serve you. When I founded this organization, I had no idea how it would grow or what it would do. Today, Casa de Sara is powered by the passion and drive of many dedicated and compassionate people. To all those in the USA and Bolivia who have so selflessly dedicated their time to Casa de Sara, to the Board of Directors, the staff, the countless companies, individual donors, grantors, and those who have said many prayers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Our organization has put smiles on many faces along the way. I look forward to continuing our work together!

Muchas Gracias!!!
